Add glitchy marks to your letters, then copy. Same seed, same look.

Fine-tune the glitch
Tallest stack: 0 of 30 marks The Unicode Stream-Safe limit is 30 marks in a row, and this tool never goes past it. Each mark is a character of its own and can count toward a length limit.
Private by design. Everything runs in your browser and is never uploaded.
A glitch text generator turns ordinary text into glitchy, Zalgo-style text by attaching Unicode combining marks, the small accents and dots used on letters, above, through and below each character. The result is still plain text, so you can copy it and paste it like any other text.
Glitch text, Zalgo text, creepy text and cursed text all mean the same thing here: normal letters with marks piled on them. This generator lets you choose how many marks each letter gets, where they go and how many letters are touched, and a seed brings back the same look on demand. For other styles, try the fancy text generator or flip your words with the mirror text generator. For cleaner decorative letters, try the cursive text generator, or draw a line through words with the strikethrough text generator.
| Style | Marks per letter | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Mild | 1 to 3 | Glitch |
| Medium | 4 to 10 | Glitch |
| Extreme | 14 to 30 | Glitch |
| Readable | 1 to 2, up and down only, no tiny letters, on 70 percent of letters | Glitch |
Four steps, and the result updates as you type.
Write a word or a short line in the left box. Marks already on pasted glitch text are removed first, so your settings always apply cleanly.
Pick Mild, Medium, Extreme or Readable, then switch Up, Middle, Down and Tiny letters on or off to decide where the marks land.
Set the fewest and most marks per letter, how many letters are glitched and whether spaces are skipped. The seed fixes the random choices, and New look picks a fresh one.
Press Copy or download a .txt file. To undo glitch text, switch Mode to Remove glitch and paste it in.
Every mark comes from the Unicode block called Combining Diacritical Marks (U+0300 to U+036F). Unicode sorts combining marks into classes by where they sit, and the three sets below come straight from those classes.
| Where | Unicode class | Marks | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up | Above (230) | 47 | Grave accent U+0300, ring above U+030A, bridge above U+0346 and 13 tiny combining letters such as U+0363, the ones the Tiny letters switch controls |
| Middle | Overlay (1), Attached_Below (202) and Attached_Above_Right (216) | 10 | Tilde overlay U+0334, strokes U+0335 and U+0336, solidus U+0337 and U+0338, hooks U+0321 and U+0322, cedilla U+0327, ogonek U+0328 and horn U+031B |
| Down | Below (220) | 39 | Dot below U+0323, ring below U+0325, low line U+0332, double low line U+0333 and X below U+0353 |
Left out on purpose: classes 232, 233, 234 and 240, the grapheme joiner U+034F, and the four marks Unicode rewrites into other marks when text is normalized (U+0340, U+0341, U+0343 and U+0344). That way what you copy stays exactly as generated, and every mark counts as one mark.

People use these names loosely, so here is how the main effects differ.
| Effect | How it is made | What you see | Copy and paste |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glitch or Zalgo text | Plain letters with stacked combining marks | The letters stay and marks pile above, through and below them | Yes, it is plain text |
| Fancy Unicode fonts | Different Unicode letters that look like bold, script or gothic type | Letters change shape and nothing stacks | Yes, try the fancy Unicode fonts |
| Mirrored text | Letters reversed, often swapped for look-alike characters | Words that read like a reflection | Yes, see the mirrored text tool |
| Glitch image or video effect | A graphics effect on pixels, such as split color channels | A broken screen look | No, it is an image or video |
Give a spooky caption, a story title or the speech of a possessed character a broken look. Extreme works well for a single scary line.
Make a headline look hacked, haunted or badly corrupted. The Readable style keeps the joke easy to read.
Turn a party name or a poster headline into something unsettling before you drop it into a design tool that accepts Unicode text.
Try a glitchy name or title for a profile, a channel or a chat message. Check the length limit and whether the site allows combining marks first.
Write an AI or a ghost that speaks in damaged text. Keep the lines in the online notepad and tune each one with the sliders.
Developers and testers can paste heavy glitch text into forms, databases and layouts to see how they cope with long runs of combining marks, up to 30 on every letter.
A few facts explain most surprises. If the effect is too wild, try Mild or Readable, or pick a tidier style from the small text generator or the tiny text generator.
Each mark is its own Unicode character: it can count toward a length limit, and it can be selected or deleted on its own.
The Unicode Stream-Safe Text Format allows at most 30 combining marks in a row, and so does this generator.
The seed, text and settings decide every random choice, and each letter is seeded on its own, so adding words at the end never changes the letters before them.
Strokes and slashes through a letter hide it fast, so Middle marks are picked about half as often as Up and Down marks.
Existing marks are removed before new ones are added, so you can paste old Zalgo text and restyle it. Real accents such as é are kept.
Stacked marks can make words hard to read for people and for software. Keep names, links and instructions in plain text, and add a plain version next to any glitch text.
It glitches up to 2,000 characters at a time, adds at most 30 marks to a letter and shows the first 20,000 characters of a long result. Copy and Download still include all of it. Remove mode reads up to 200,000 characters.
A site or app may clip, limit or strip stacked marks, and its rules can change over time, so paste a short test first. If marks disappear or the line looks cut off, use Mild or Readable.
This makes copyable text, not an image, a GIF or a video effect. For a split-color glitch look on a thumbnail or a video title, use a graphics or video editor.

Short answers to what people ask most.
A glitch text generator adds Unicode combining marks above, through and below the letters of your text so it looks corrupted or glitchy. The result is plain text that you can copy and paste.
On this page, yes: all four names describe letters with stacked combining marks. Other tools may use these names for different effects, so results can differ between tools.
Type or paste your text, pick Mild, Medium, Extreme or Readable, then choose where the marks go with Up, Middle and Down. Press Copy to take the result, or New look for a different pattern.
Keep the same text, settings and seed. The seed under Fine-tune decides every random choice, so the same three always give the same result, and New look simply picks a new seed.
Unicode sets no hard limit on marks per letter, but its Stream-Safe Text Format allows at most 30 combining marks in a row. This generator never goes past 30 on any letter.
Switch Mode to Remove glitch, paste the text and copy the cleaned result. Keep real accents leaves letters such as the e in cafe with its acute accent alone, and Remove all marks strips every mark in the glitch ranges.
It depends on the site and the app version, and we have not tested these platforms. Paste a short sample first, and if marks vanish or get cut off, try the Mild or Readable style.
Each font and app draws combining marks in its own way, and a site may clip or remove them. A different font or app can therefore show the same text quite differently.
Heavy stacking can make a word hard to follow, and we have not tested screen readers with this output, so keep names, links and anything important in plain text.
Use a light touch. Wikipedia reports that Zalgo text has crashed some apps in the past, including some versions of Apple Messages and Gmail, so Mild or Readable is the safer choice for messages.
Every letter can carry up to 30 marks, so long texts become very long results that are slow to display and quickly hit length limits. Remove mode reads up to 200,000 characters.
No. The glitching happens in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server. Your style and slider choices are remembered on your own device only.
