The basics

What is a cursive text generator?

A cursive text generator swaps ordinary letters for look-alike script letters from Unicode, so you can copy and paste cursive-style text in most places that accept text. This one offers Script and Bold Script. The result is characters rather than a font, so the style travels with the text if the device can display it.

Type a name, a caption or a short message and both versions of your script text appear at once. The tool also fills in the eleven letters that Unicode leaves empty in its Script range, so the converter never lands on an empty slot. For bubbles, gothic or monospace letters, use the fancy text generator; for tiny or small-capital letters, try the small text generator. For crossed-out words, use the strikethrough text generator; for distorted, spooky letters, the glitch text generator; and for hearts, stars and arrows to go with your name, copy and paste symbols.

How it works

How to make cursive text

Four steps, and the result updates as you type.

01

Type or paste

Add a name, a caption or a short message. Letters A to Z are converted, while digits, spaces and punctuation stay as typed.

02

Pick a letter case

Keep your text as typed, or switch to lowercase, UPPERCASE or Capitalize (a capital first letter on every word, the rest in lowercase). Script capitals are the most ornate letters, so try lowercase if one is hard to read.

03

Copy the style you like

Script has fine strokes and Bold Script has heavier ones. Each has its own Copy button, and Download .txt saves both.

04

Paste and check

Paste into your post, bio or chat. If the letters show as boxes, read the device note above the results or try another browser or device.

Empty boxes

Why some cursive letters show as empty boxes

Unicode left 11 slots in the Script part of its Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block empty and stored those letters in the older Letterlike Symbols block instead. A converter that simply counts up from A lands on an empty slot for them, and you get a box or nothing at all. This tool uses the right code point for each one.

The 11 Script letters stored in Letterlike Symbols
Letter Script Code point Unicode name Empty slot in Mathematical Script
B ℬ U+212C SCRIPT CAPITAL B U+1D49D
E ℰ U+2130 SCRIPT CAPITAL E U+1D4A0
F ℱ U+2131 SCRIPT CAPITAL F U+1D4A1
H ℋ U+210B SCRIPT CAPITAL H U+1D4A3
I ℐ U+2110 SCRIPT CAPITAL I U+1D4A4
L ℒ U+2112 SCRIPT CAPITAL L U+1D4A7
M ℳ U+2133 SCRIPT CAPITAL M U+1D4A8
R ℛ U+211B SCRIPT CAPITAL R U+1D4AD
e ℯ U+212F SCRIPT SMALL E U+1D4BA
g ℊ U+210A SCRIPT SMALL G U+1D4BC
o ℴ U+2134 SCRIPT SMALL O U+1D4C4

Bold Script has no gaps, so all 52 of its letters sit together in one block, U+1D4D0 to U+1D503. Because 11 Script letters come from a different block, a device may draw them with a different font, so they can look slightly different from their neighbors. If one letter looks off, the font is the cause and the copied text is still correct.

Comparison

Cursive letters, cursive fonts and other Unicode styles

People search for cursive fonts copy and paste, but what you copy is a set of characters, not a font. These tables show what that means in practice.

Unicode cursive letters compared with a cursive font
Feature Unicode cursive letters (this tool) A cursive font
What you copy Separate characters from the Script part of the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block Ordinary letters, with the font applied by the page or app

Use cases

What people use cursive text for

Bios and display names

Add a cursive name or tagline where a profile allows it, and pair it with a small second line from the tiny text generator. Check the username field separately, because usernames often follow stricter rules.

Captions and comments

Make one word or a short line stand out in a caption, a comment or a post, and keep the rest in normal text.

Cards and messages

Birthday, wedding and thank-you messages feel more personal in script. Keep them short, because long runs of script are harder to read.

Chat and gaming names

Nicknames in chat apps, servers and games look different in cursive. Each app decides what its name field accepts, so paste a short test first.

Plain-text spots

Notes, text boxes and other fields that only take plain text, where you cannot choose a font, are where script text helps most.

Design ideas

Try how a name looks in script, then rebuild it with a real cursive font in your design software for a result that looks the same everywhere.

Good to know

Things worth knowing about cursive text

Six details explain most surprises. Keep a result for later in the online notepad, or tidy the capitals first with the title case converter.

  • They are symbols, not a font

Unicode encoded these letters for mathematical variables, and its code chart says general text should use standard Latin and Greek letters with markup. Use them for short, decorative text.

  • The letters do not join

Real cursive joins letters in a flowing line. These are separate characters, so each letter stands alone even though the shapes look like handwriting.

  • Digits and punctuation stay plain

Unicode has script letters but no script digits, so numbers, spaces and punctuation stay as typed. Accented letters and emoji also stay as typed.

  • The look depends on the device

The Unicode chart says its sample glyphs are not prescriptive and that a font may use a less elaborate style. The same text can look different on another phone or computer.

  • Screen readers may struggle

Scope notes that a screen reader may skip these letters or read out something irrelevant, such as mathematical sans-serif script t for a single stylized t, and RNIB warns that fancy fonts can make text very hard to follow. Keep key details such as dates, prices and links in plain text.

  • Optional style hints are left out

Unicode defines chancery and roundhand variation selectors for script capital letters. This tool does not add them, so your text contains no invisible extra characters.

Limits

What this cursive text generator does not do

Letters A to Z only

Digits, accented letters, other alphabets, emoji and punctuation have no script form here, so they stay as typed.

It cannot see other apps

The device check tests this browser only. An app or website may use its own font or strip unusual characters, so paste a short test before you share.

Large input is capped

To keep the page responsive, the tool converts the first 200,000 characters and shows the first 20,000 characters of each result. Copy and Download still include all of it.

FAQ

Cursive text generator FAQ

Short answers to what people ask most.

What is a cursive text generator?

A cursive text generator converts ordinary letters into script letters from Unicode, so you can copy and paste cursive-looking text. This one offers Script and Bold Script, and it can also turn them back into plain text.

How do I make cursive text?

Type or paste your text in the left box and the Script and Bold Script versions appear on the right. Press Copy on the style you like and paste it into your post, bio or message.

Is cursive text a font?

No. It is a set of separate Unicode characters that look like script handwriting, so there is nothing to install and the style is copied along with the text. The exact shapes still come from the font on the device that displays them.

Why do some cursive letters show as empty boxes?

Unicode leaves 11 slots in the Script part of its Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block empty and stores those letters (capital B, E, F, H, I, L, M and R, and small e, g and o) in Letterlike Symbols instead. This tool uses the correct code points, so boxes only appear when the device has no font for these characters.

Why do numbers stay the same in cursive text?

Unicode has script letters but no script digits, only bold, double-struck, sans-serif and monospace ones, so digits stay plain. Spaces, punctuation, accented letters and emoji also stay as typed.

What is the difference between Script and Bold Script?

Both come from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, and Bold Script simply has heavier strokes. Bold Script has no reserved gaps, while Script borrows 11 letters from Letterlike Symbols.

Can I use cursive text in a bio or a username?

Many apps accept these characters in bios, captions and display names, but each app sets its own rules, so paste a short test first. Usernames and addresses often follow stricter rules, so check the rules for that field before you change it.

Can screen readers read cursive text?

Often not well. Scope notes that a screen reader may skip these characters or read out something irrelevant, and RNIB warns that fancy fonts can make text very hard to follow. Keep important details in plain text and use cursive only for decoration.

How do I turn cursive text back into plain text?

Choose Back to plain in the tool and paste the cursive text. It restores Script, Bold Script and the other Unicode math letter styles (bold, italic, Fraktur, double-struck, sans-serif and monospace) to ordinary letters and digits. Circled, full-width and small-capital letters are not converted.

How does the device check work?

The page measures sample script letters with an off-screen canvas and compares their width with the empty-box glyph your browser uses for missing characters. If they match, it warns you. It only tests this browser, not other apps.

Is my text uploaded or stored?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server or saved.
