The Case Converter Tool Chrome extension is a free browser extension that changes the case of text on any web page. Select the text, right-click and choose a format such as UPPER CASE, Title Case, camelCase or snake_case. It needs no sign-up, and the developer states it processes text locally.

How to use it

How do you change text case in Chrome with the extension?

It takes four steps after the install.

01

Add it to Chrome

Open the Chrome Web Store listing and select Add to Chrome. Chrome shows any permissions the extension asks for. Read them before you approve.

02

Select text on any page

Highlight the words you want to change in an article, an email, a form or a document. The extension works on the text you select.

03

Right-click the selection

Open the browser right-click menu on the highlighted text and look for the Case Converter Tool entry.

04

Pick a case format

Choose UPPER CASE, lower case, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case or kebab-case from the menu.

Formats

Which case formats does the extension support?

The Web Store listing names eight formats. Four are for writing and four are for code. The table applies each one to the same phrase, so you can see exactly what changes.

The uppercase converter, lowercase converter and sentence case converter pages explain the writing formats in more depth.

Which other tools does the extension include?

The listing calls it a toolkit, not only a case changer. These are the other tools it names. Each one has a full page on the website with examples and an FAQ.

Compare

Should you use the extension or the website?

Both are free, and neither asks you to sign up. They suit different moments. The extension saves a trip to another tab. The website gives you more room and more feedback.

Many people use both: the extension for a quick fix in the middle of a task, and the case converter website when the text is long or needs checking.

Install and manage

How do you install, pin and remove a Chrome extension?

These steps follow Chrome official help pages and apply to any extension.

01

Install

Open the listing and select Add to Chrome. Chrome asks you to approve any permissions it needs, then the extension is ready to use.

02

Select the Extensions icon (the puzzle piece) next to the address bar, find the extension and select Pin so it stays visible.

03

Allow it in Incognito

Chrome does not add extensions while you browse in Incognito. For an extension you already have, open its Details in Manage extensions and turn on Allow in incognito.

04

Turn off or remove

Open the three-dot menu, go to Extensions, then Manage extensions. Use the toggle to switch it off, or right-click its icon and select Remove from Chrome.

Permissions

What permissions does a case converter extension need?

A right-click case converter normally needs a way to add items to the context menu. Depending on how it is built, it may also need access to the tab you are using or to the clipboard. Chrome lists each permission and any warning it shows.

The table shows what these common permissions mean, from Chrome's permissions list. It is general background, not a list of what this extension requests. When you select Add to Chrome, Chrome shows the exact permissions requested. Read that prompt before you approve it.

Common permissions explained
PermissionWhat it allowsChrome warning
contextMenusLets an extension add items to the right-click menu. Chrome lists contexts such as selected text and editable fields. No warning listed in Chrome table

Privacy

Is the Case Converter Chrome extension private?

The Chrome Web Store listing says the developer will not collect or use your data, and that text is processed locally and is not stored, tracked or shared. It also declares that data is not sold to third parties outside approved uses, and is not used for unrelated purposes or for lending decisions.

Those are the developer statements, and you should read the listing yourself. Chrome Web Store policy also bars extensions from using user data for personalised advertising or selling it. Our privacy policy explains how the website and the extension handle information.

What to check before you install any extension
  • Read the permissions Chrome shows and ask whether a case converter needs them.
  • Open the privacy practices on the listing and read the policy it links to.
  • Check the developer name, the update date and the version.
Who it is for

Who benefits from a case converter extension?

The listing names writers, developers, students and social media managers. Here is how each might use it.

Writers and editors

Fix a headline typed in capitals or put a title into Title Case without leaving the page.

Students

Tidy notes and assignment headings, or turn copied sentences into sentence case.

Developers

Turn a phrase into camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case or kebab-case for a name or a URL slug.

Social media managers

Adjust the case of captions and posts while you work in the browser.

Anyone with Caps Lock on

Rescue a whole paragraph typed in capitals without retyping it.

Data clean-up

Make pasted names and labels consistent before they go into a form or sheet.

Good to know

Where might the extension not work?

Every browser extension has limits. These are the ones to keep in mind, so you are never surprised.

  • Some pages draw their own menu

Many web apps and online editors replace the browser right-click menu with their own. If you do not see the extension there, select the text and use the Case Converter website instead.

  • Incognito needs a switch

Extensions are off in Incognito until you allow them in Manage extensions.

  • It follows what you select

Only the highlighted text is used, so check your selection before you choose a format.

  • Title Case is a style choice

Style guides disagree about small words, so check a headline against the guide you must follow.

  • Version 1.0.0 is the first release

The Web Store listing shows version 1.0.0, and features may change in later updates.
