Type or paste text, pick a line style and copy it. Strike every letter, each word or only the part you select.

Private by design. Everything runs in your browser and is never uploaded.
Type some text above to see all seven line styles here.
A strikethrough text generator adds a line through your words by placing a Unicode combining character, such as U+0336, after each letter. The line is part of the text itself, so you can copy it and paste it into bios, comments and chats that have no strikethrough button.
This one can strike every letter, each word, or only the part you select, and it can take the line off again. Where an app understands markup, real strikethrough is cleaner, so the Copy as buttons give you ~~text~~ for Discord and Reddit, ~text~ for WhatsApp, or an HTML s element. If you want different letter shapes rather than a line, try the fancy text generator. For flowing script letters, use the cursive text generator, or the glitch text generator to pile marks above and below each letter. Ticks, crosses and arrows are ready to copy on the copy and paste symbols page.
| Plain text | Struck text | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Hello world | H̶e̶l̶l̶o̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶l̶d̶ | Whole text: spaces get the line too, so it runs on. |
| Hello world | H̶e̶l̶l̶o̶ w̶o̶r̶l̶d̶ | Each word: spaces are left alone. |
| Was $50, now $30 | W̶a̶s̶ ̶$̶5̶0̶,̶ now $30 | Selection: only the part you highlight. |
| Café | C̶a̶f̶é̶ | Accents stay on their letters. |
| Hi 😀 | H̶i̶ ̶😀 | Emoji are left unmarked. |
The result updates as you type, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Use the left box. Line breaks are kept, and they never receive a line themselves.
Pick Whole text, Each word or Selection. For Selection, highlight words in the box and only those are struck.
Strikethrough is the classic. Short stroke, slash, underline, double underline and tilde use other marks, and one list shows all seven at once.
Copy the result, or use Copy as for Markdown, WhatsApp or HTML markup. To clear a line, set Mode to Remove.
All seven are combining characters from the Combining Diacritical Marks block, U+0300 to U+036F. Each one is drawn on the letter before it.
| Style | Unicode name | Code point | Example | What it looks like |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strikethrough | Combining long stroke overlay | U+0336 | S̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶ | A line through each letter. It is meant to join up with its neighbors, but whether it does, and how high it sits, depends on the font. |
| Short stroke | Combining short stroke overlay | U+0335 | S̵t̵r̵i̵k̵e̵ | A shorter line that stays within each letter instead of joining its neighbors. How much shorter it is than the long stroke depends on the font. |
| Slash | Combining long solidus overlay | U+0338 | S̸t̸r̸i̸k̸e̸ | A long diagonal slash through each letter. |
| Short slash | Combining short solidus overlay | U+0337 | S̷t̷r̷i̷k̷e̷ | A shorter diagonal slash on each letter. |
| Underline | Combining low line | U+0332 | S̲t̲r̲i̲k̲e̲ | A line under each letter. |
| Double underline | Combining double low line | U+0333 | S̳t̳r̳i̳k̳e̳ | Two lines under each letter. |
| Tilde | Combining tilde overlay | U+0334 | S̴t̴r̴i̴k̴e̴ | A wavy line through each letter. |
Where an app has its own strikethrough, use it: your words stay ordinary letters. Every row links the official help page that was checked on November 7, 2026.

Instagram, X, Facebook and TikTok are not in the table because their help pages were not checked for this page. For plain-text fields on those apps the Unicode result from the tool is one way to get a line, within the limits described below.
Each method puts the line in a different place, which changes where it works and what it costs.
| Factor | Unicode marks (this tool) | App markup | HTML or CSS |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it works | Plain-text fields, as long as the app and font draw the marks | Only in apps that support the syntax, such as Discord, Reddit, GitHub and WhatsApp | Web pages and HTML email that you control |
| What is stored | Your letters plus one extra character after each struck letter | Your letters plus tildes; the app draws the line | Your letters inside a tag or style; the browser draws the line |
| Length | Up to twice as many characters | Two to four extra tildes for each struck phrase | The tag or style text is added |
| Search and screen readers | A search for the plain word may not match, and screen readers may skip or misread the marks | The words stay ordinary letters, so a plain search matches them | The words stay ordinary letters in the page source |
| Best for | Bios, comments and messages in apps with no strikethrough option | Chat, forums and README files | Your own web pages |
Cross out a word and put the real one next to it in a caption, a reply or a bio, the way people show a change of mind.
Show the old price beside the new one in a plain-text listing or message, for example Was $50, now $30.
Mark finished items in a plain-text list. Keep the list in the online notepad and paste struck lines in as you go.
Show what you cut from an email or chat draft when there is no track-changes feature, so the reader sees both versions.
Add a crossed-out word to a meme caption, a poster or a slide where you can only paste plain text.
Show how combining characters work, or compare short stroke, slash and underline marks side by side with the list under the tool.
A few details explain most surprises. Strikethrough is one of several Unicode text tricks: the small text generator shrinks letters and the mirror text generator flips them.
The line is a separate character placed after the letter, so struck text can be nearly twice as long. Compare Characters out with any limit.
How the line looks, and whether it joins up between letters, depends on the font and the app. In our test in Chrome on Windows, the long stroke ran through the letters in Arial but sat at the baseline in Segoe UI, where it looked like an underline.
In Discord, Reddit, GitHub and WhatsApp the app draws the line and your words stay ordinary letters. Use the Copy as buttons.
A combining line can look wrong on emoji, so they are left alone. Accents stay attached to their letters, and line breaks never get a mark.
Click Use result as input, pick another line style, and both marks sit on the same letters. How they look together depends on the font.
Paste a short sample into the real app before sending the whole message. Some apps show the line broken, shifted or missing.
The result is Unicode text, not a style, so apps can drop or mis-draw the marks. Strikethrough from a word processor is formatting instead: it is lost when you paste into the box, and the remove text formatting tool turns formatted text into plain text.
Scope for Business reports that screen readers can skip Unicode styled text or read it out as something unrelated. No source we found tests the U+0336 mark in a named screen reader, so keep important text as plain text.
The tool converts the first 200,000 characters and shows the first 20,000 characters of the result; Copy and Download include all of it. Remove mode deletes only the seven marks: accents and the ≠ sign stay, but a slash overlay typed after = is removed.

Short answers to what people ask most.
Strikethrough text has a horizontal line through its letters, usually to show that something is removed, corrected or no longer true. Online generators make it with Unicode combining characters, so the result can be pasted as plain text.
Type or paste your text in the left box and the struck version appears on the right. Click Copy, then paste it where you want it. Choose Each word to leave the spaces unstruck, or Selection to strike only part of the text.
Choose Selection under Apply to, then highlight the words in the left box with your mouse or keyboard. Only the highlighted words get the line, and spaces at the ends of your selection are left alone.
Switch Mode to Remove and paste the struck text into the left box. The tool deletes the seven line marks it can add and keeps letters and accents. Strikethrough applied by a word processor is formatting, so it is already lost when you paste into the box.
Type two tildes, your text, then two more tildes, like ~~text~~. Discord shows it struck through without any special characters, and its Markdown help page lists the same syntax.
Put a tilde on each side of the text, like ~text~. WhatsApp lists this in its Help Center article on formatting messages.
No. The line is a combining character, so the app and font decide how it looks: in our test in Chrome on Windows it ran through the letters in Arial but sat at the baseline in Segoe UI. Paste a short test where you plan to post, and use real strikethrough instead if the app offers it.
They may not. Screen readers can skip Unicode styled text or read it out as something unrelated, and struck text adds an extra character after every letter. Use plain text for anything important.
Use the HTML s element for content that is no longer accurate or relevant, or the del element for text that was removed in an edit. In CSS, set text-decoration-line to line-through.
In most apps, yes. Every struck letter is followed by one extra mark, so the result can be nearly twice as long as the original. Check the characters out number under the tool against any limit.
No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server. Only your line style choice is remembered, on your own device.
